Our client is looking for a Data Governance Lead to establish foundational enterprise data governance capabilities. The role will work across business, risk, compliance and technology teams to define data ownership, quality standards, governance processes and operating models. The successful candidate will deliver practical governance outcomes within the program while creating an enterprise-wide data governance framework capable of supporting future organisational needs.

Purpose of the Role:

  • Lead the design and implementation of data governance capabilities within the organisation
  • Establish sustainable data governance frameworks, standards and processes that support risk, compliance, operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Create the foundations for an enterprise-wide data governance model that can be extended across the organisation
  • Ensure data used within governance, risk, compliance and assurance processes is accurate, trusted, secure and appropriately managed throughout its lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a data governance framework aligned to the client’s governance, risk and compliance objectives.
  • Define data ownership, stewardship and accountability models across business domains.
  • Establish data quality standards, controls, monitoring and remediation processes.
  • Develop data classification, metadata management and data lifecycle management practices.
  • Support the definition of master and reference data requirements.
  • Lead the identification and documentation of critical data elements supporting risk, compliance, assurance and regulatory obligations.
  • Develop business glossaries, data dictionaries and information asset registers.
  • Work with business stakeholders to improve data quality, consistency and reporting outcomes.
  • Support implementation of governance tooling, workflows and reporting capabilities within the selected GRC platform.
  • Ensure alignment between data governance, records management, cyber security, privacy and information management requirements.
  • Establish governance forums, decision-making processes and reporting mechanisms for data-related issues and risks.
  • Drive stakeholder engagement and uplift organisational data governance maturity.

Key Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated experience establishing or maturing enterprise data governance capabilities.
  • Experience implementing data governance within ERP, GRC, risk, compliance or large-scale transformation programs within an Australian Government environment.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, metadata management, master data management and information lifecycle management.
  • Experience developing data governance operating models, policies, standards and procedures.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, particularly across business, technology, risk and compliance functions.
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments.
  • Ability to translate business objectives into practical governance controls and processes.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM or similar.
  • Familiarity with the requirements of the Archives Act 1983 and the National Archives of Australia
