Our client is looking for a Hyper-V Migration Expert who has experience in transition from a VMware-based virtualisation platform to Hyper V. Looking for an experienced professional to design and assess an on?premise Hyper?V virtualisation cluster, and-subject to suitability-lead an opportunistic migration of workloads from VMware to Hyper?V.

You should bring prior hands?on experience delivering similar cross?platform migrations. The role requires strong expertise across the full spectrum of Hyper?V deployment models, including associated technologies such as Azure Stack HCI. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating the current environment and advising on the most appropriate target architecture aligned to the client’s requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and evaluate an on-prem Hyper-V virtualisation cluster
  • Assess Microsoft-based solutions, including Azure Stack HCI
  • Lead the migration of workloads from VMware to Hyper-V
  • Analyse existing infrastructure and recommend optimal architecture
  • Address challenges related to hyperconverged storage (e.g. vSAN)
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors

Key Skills Required:

Hyper-V & Microsoft Stack

  • Strong hands-on experience with Hyper-V on Windows Server
  • Failover Clustering and Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV)
  • Live Migration and Storage Live Migration
  • Hyper-V virtual switch design and host configuration
  • Windows Failover Clustering design, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • Host lifecycle management, patching, maintenance, and resilience
  • Integration with backup, monitoring, and disaster recovery platforms

Storage Architecture

  • Strong understanding of storage design for Hyper-V environments
  • SAN and iSCSI architectures
  • LUN presentation and Multipath I/O (MPIO)
  • Storage performance, resiliency, and failover behaviour
  • CSV design considerations for clustered workloads

Networking

  • VLAN design and network segmentation
  • NIC teaming and redundancy models
  • Traffic separation for management, storage, live migration, and VM networks
  • Integration with physical switching infrastructure
  • Hyper-V virtual switch design and load-balancing approaches

Highly desirable, not mandatory skills:
Automation & Scripting

  • PowerShell, including Hyper-V and Failover Clustering modules
  • VMware PowerCLI for source environment analysis and migration
  • SCVMM PowerShell experience

System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)

  • Fabric management across compute, storage, and networking
  • Logical networks and uplink port profiles
  • VM templates and service deployment
  • Host groups and cluster lifecycle management

Operations & Platform Integration

  • Cluster-Aware Updating and patch orchestration
  • Backup platforms supporting Hyper-V
  • Disaster recovery solutions, including Hyper-V Replica or equivalent technologies
